Mount Vernon, Ohio, proudly claims Daniel Decatur Emmett as a native son. I too am a proud Mt.Vernonite, and used my birthplace connection with the author of "Dixie" to good advantage when introducing myself to my classmates at my East Tennessee college many years ago now. I love to announce that there were three famous people who came from Mt. Vernon, Ohio: Dan Emmett, Paul Lynde.... and ME! [Cue the puzzled expressions] Thia ia absolutely true.
